Tutti Fruiti Protein Smoothie

My boys LOVE snacking on  all kinds of fruits.  The one problem that I find is that they don't always eat the entire piece of fruit...half eaten bananas and apples, squashed up blueberries...I always find these little surprises everywhere.  SOLUTION...a fruit smoothie.  Packed with nutrients and protein, every piece of fruit that include in this smoothie is quickly sipped (or gulped) down...getting my seal of approval.  Enjoy!

1 cup blueberries
1 red delicious apple
2 cups strawberries
2 bananas
1 scoop SFH protein powder
1-1/2 water
1-2 cups ice

Add all ingredients in the following order: water, protein powder, blueberries, strawberries, apple, bananas, ice.  Blend* until desired consistency is achieved.

*I use a Vitamix blender.

Fit & Fun

When planning your vacation, do you plan on making time to workout?  Now a days, many destinations offer gyms or excursions where you can sweat your worries away.  Sometimes though, you are responsible for staying committed to your workout goals...even on vacation.  As the school year is about to begin, my husband and I decided to take the boys on a final summer getaway.  Where are we off to?  Sanibel Island on the west coast of Florida.  Our little hidden destination does not offer fancy gyms.  It does offer activities like tennis, kayaking, biking, and hiking, but it doesn't offer my form of working out...KETTLEBELLS.

Fit and Fun

It is up to me to continue my workout regiment.  Pack a kettlebell...why not?  I pack one of my lighter kettlebells.  I focus on form and conditioning instead of strength.  I work on monitoring my heart rate and activity (with my gear from Garmin) throughout my workouts.  All I know, is that I don't come home with that vacation guilt that most of us have after indulging a little too much during vacation.  Do you workout on your getaways?  What sorts of fun exercise do you do?

Breaking Point

Have you ever hit a point in your life where you say "enough is enough".  I had my breaking point about a year and a half ago.  I went to my doctor because I was battling a cold when the nurse said those dreaded words..."It's time to step on the scale".  My heart dropped.  I probably went pale because I knew that the number that I was going to see was not going to be good.  It wasn't...220 pounds.  I knew that I had gained weight from having 5 kids in 6 years, but 220 pounds?  The last time that I had been at my doctor had been for my postpartum appointment and I really didn't pay attention to my weight.  TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY pounds...I kept saying that because I knew that something had to be done.

First on my list was to clean up my diet.  That in itself took an insane amount of work, but I started seeing the weight dropping and I was feeling better.  I knew that cleaning my diet up wasn't enough so my next step was to get fit.  But what could an unfit, overweight person do?  Cardio...I could barely walk without having to catch my breath.  Going to a gym...I didn't have the confidence to do that.  I asked a friend who was dedicated to health and fitness for help.  We went out several times and she made me work hard.  In one of our training sessions she said the magic word...KETTLEBELLS.  She told me that not only would I great workout, but that I would get strong.  When I got home, I did a ton of research and I knew that this was the path that I needed to take.

As I continued working out with the kettlebells I found that inches were melting off.  What I loved the best (besides the improvement to my health) was that not only that the workouts were quick and efficient..a MUST HAVE for a busy mom...but I was getting stronger in the process.  Want to know about more about kettlebells and my workouts...stay tuned.
